Up and running perfectly so far.  Using ROM Manager to simply boot into recovery, which works fine.  Backing up to external SD card now, all going without a hitch.  Thanks so much for your work Chainfire - Samsung make the nice hardware and Google the base software, but devs like you and all the others are the real reason I love Android!

"CWM Manager" has now also been released (full backup/restore management from Android), and I've updated the recovery itself to now also support sdcards formatted as exfat.
