... stress again, that it seems perfectly possible to run a custom firmware, this is purely about rooting the stock firmware. Disabling SELinux appears to be rather easy, though that in turn causes a lot of crashes in the firmware itself. Haven't really looked into those crashes, or if they're fixable, as we're still having problems simply running su. Again, it does appear that the su protection is not actually related to SELinux but to something else in the kernel. Next try, maybe. Or maybe I'll just wait for having a device in-hand and some kernel sauce :)

Kernel sauce...is that anything like Vsauce? :-)  Maybe, just maybe, ~~HTC~~ Samsung will release source like they're supposed to under the GPL, and you can look at the SUID/SGID portions of the kernel and/or filesystem(s).

Rooting part is great, but provided devs want to develop custom ROMs on the S4. Cyanogen Mod won't be supporting the S4. I also think the majority that'll buy a S4 would be the normal users who probably never even heard of rooting :/

The Cyanogen Mod support was cleared up this AM, they haven't said yes or no that was another tech source fueling that rumor.
