Finally cracked the secret to making this possible, thanks some hacking, and with assistance from supercurio, djembey, and avicohh.

The I9500 uses a slightly different sparse ext4 image format from the other models (and indeed any other device I've done a CF-Auto-Root for so far). There's a few extra bytes in both the file header as well as the chunk headers, without these, ODIN refuses to flash.

Code (even quick and dirty) speaks louder than words, so if you need to do anything with I9500 sparse ext4 images, see my GitHub: https://github.com/Chainfire/sgs4ext4fs

You can find the thread and the download here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2292615

PS: I still don't have a test result for the Canadian S4 models. If you can test, see the post covering the Sprint SGS4 CF-Auto-Root, it has the link.

Now a decent way to buy a GT-I9500 in NL, just to try it out ;-)

I wish you compiled custom kernels from source code, we would have got an elite kernel developer. :)

@Samsung

If I have already rooted should I try this cf method.

Jahidul Islam commented on 2013-05-24 at 08:59:

+naishadh badheka you are already rooted. You don't need to do it.

Remy Escuel commented on 2013-05-24 at 09:17:

+naishadh badheka strange question. You have made root you phone or you have root it ? with the cofface CWM ?

Fawad Qadri commented on 2013-05-24 at 11:24:

I have a 9502 which is almost identical to the 9500 except for dual sims. Do you think it would be safe to try this on that?

Chainfire commented on 2013-05-24 at 16:05:

+Fawad Qadri If there is a stock firmware available you can flash back, you could try it. No guarantees though - flashing is never safe. If you don't have a stock firmware available, then hell no

Akash Solanki commented on 2013-05-24 at 17:24:

Thanks a lot I was waiting for these.

Rance Choushin commented on 2013-05-24 at 20:14:

Will this work for SHV-E300s/l/k? They have the same board... Exynos 5...

Chainfire commented on 2013-05-24 at 20:17:

If there's a stock firmware available you can flash in case of problems, give it a try. If not, don't.

Fawad Qadri commented on 2013-05-24 at 20:47:

Thanks Chainfire. Will give it a spin.
