As some of you may know by now, the 2013 Nexus 7 has USB host operational - sometimes. For some it works, for some it doesn't work. Some get nothing at all, others get the kernel working but not the Android API, and for others both kernel level and Android API level is working fine.
I've talked to several users who didn't have USB host working but do have it working now, the same as it was for myself. There's doesn't seem to be a single thing that gets USB host back in line and operating - but once it works, it seems to pretty much keep working.
I've assembled various instructions in a guide. Following it will hopefully make USB host work on your 2013 Nexus 7 if it doesn't already.
All in all, it does seem to be a firmware issue somehow, I just hope the guys over at Google can figure it out and definitely fix it in the next update... regardless of the futility of hoping that :) If anybody else finds out what the true source of the issue is, I'm all ears. All explanations and quick-fixes I've heard so far have been off, and/or simply didn't work for every case found.
Thanks !!!
Thanks for sharing, DSLR Controller with my project that allows you to calibrate the display with a colorimeter would makes a very competent tool for pros once this USB issue fixed.
Google has really cocked up USB in recent Nexii.
They cocked up Bluetooth in 4.2 ... seems nothing is sacred.
DSLR Controller actually works on my N7 2013, I was using it just yesterday. :-)
I feel like every Nexus device has these USB host problems, I wonder why?

This is not a USB issue. The fact that the issue does not happen on all of the 2013 Nexus 7 devices is definitely odd, to say the least. Nevertheless, it is in fact a firmware issue.
If you are experiencing issues with DSLR Controller, following
+Chainfire's guide should help. I've done everything in the guide and I was unable to make the connection fail.
USB OTG works fine on my N7 2013 out of the box. Although I'm not 100 percent sure as I flashed CM 10.2 onto it after 10 minutes of use...
how about. my nexus7&OTG doesn' t work! help me please.....

Try StickMount from +Chainfire
Root required
stickmount allready have.we don't know how it to root.we allso consulted some other technician but unable to do.
Rooting is easy. In the guide, it tells you how to root.
bizarrely mine only seems to work when US english language is selected... thanks for the guide for sorting this temporarily, I'll put up with the american spell check for the moment until google get around to a permanent fix
Awww... Our spelling isn't all that bad +Ben Tucker
Yesterday I ran into the OTG problem when I wanted to connect my Nexus 7 2013 to a 600D. Thanks to a comment above I just had to switch the language to English and reboot the device
haha +Scott Steinhart I honestly haven't had much of an issue since changing it because unlike your language my spelling is very bad :p well worth it to get this app running anyway :)
i buy it in google play`` but it can not record video ,have no video record button。yeah the red button , why?
Hey all, how can a install SuperSU+ if I have Superuser (1.0.2.1) installed?
Appreciate any tips, steps and experience...thanks
Make sure your language is set to US English. If you are, change to UK English and then back. I've heard from several folks that this works.
Mine worked, then it didn't... Then it did again, so I get your frustration.
At this point, I suggest you try his advanced fix. Worst case, re-flash 4.3. Or, look up Paranoid Android here n G+. They have 4.4 with Gapps. I have not tried it.
My 2013 Nexus 7 worked with a Canon Kiss X3 (EOS 500D) and with a Canon EOS 40d, but didn't worked with a Canon EOS 5D Mark III. It's possible?
I just received my nexus 7 and want to try it with my canon 6d and 5d mII. When I connect all cables...the APP says that no device was detected. So its not able to see the DSLR. I noticed that the OTG cable I got from amazon has a micro male pin that is too long and wont go in all the way. Could this be the problem? Should I search for a shorter pin otg cable?? I want to use the device for a film project and really need advice. thank you!
I have tried numerous adapters and cables as well as wifi. Still a no-go
