This new beta may be doing away with the previously needed kernel patches on Lollipop.
I should warn you however that this method is more invasive, and has a higher chance of bootloops. Probably the highest-bootloop-risk beta in quite a while. Please make sure you have a backup before flashing it. In case of bootloops, reflash the system partition.
If you've previously rooted, keeping the old patched kernel will do no harm, but it will also not properly test this beta. I suggest you flash back your device's stock kernel.
Remember that I rely on all you enthusiasts to test and report back issues. I prefer the reports in the BETA thread on XDA rather than over here, but I will read them here as well. Please include your device, firmware details, stock or patched kernel, and the problem in detail, when you report something.
XDA has some background details in their portal article, for those interested in that sort of thing: http://www.xda-developers.com/android/supersu-beta-lollipop-root-stock-kernel/
SuperSU BETA thread on XDA: http://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/supersu/2014-09-02-supersu-v2-05-t2868133
Again, official docs are coming in the next few days. Let's get this all fixed and tested first, though!
Chainfire on fire, just like Google with there updates, r5,r6,r7 ? Jokes apart, major success if this is successful :)
Thanks a lot. and congrats on 200k followers
How about letting SuperSU detect boot loops and taking preventive action after a boot loop is detected, like trying different strategies?
The XDA article seems to be missing, can we read about it anywhere else?
+Todd Yates check again... timing things across sites to the exact second is difficult, you know.
+Chainfire Ah, I was just flicking through G+ and didn't realise how new this post was, sorry.
+Chainfire Actually for me the link needs a / at the end to work. Compare:
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/supersu-beta-lollipop-root-stock-kernel
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/supersu-beta-lollipop-root-stock-kernel/
+Todd Yates should be fixed
Just for the record, installed the stable version via the autorooter on N4 and N10 (both on Lollipop), works like a charm. I just don't get what's all that kernel patch fuss about.
2.27 doesn't clear log
+Carlos Rodríguez Oh, thanks. Didn't know about that and didn't even know it's possible without recompiling.
+Chainfire aparently, everything works fine with 2.27. I flashed the stock boot.img and then booted to TWRP (when I'm on stock I don't flash a custom recovery, I just boot to it to flash SuperSU) and flashed 2.27. Wakelock detector and other root apps work.
Oh, so wakelock detector is broken because of this and the issue was fixed! I forgot about it, really. My other root apps work fine though, except WLD. Many thanks again.
It works!I just flashed boot.img via fastboot, and after reboot I opened SuperSU to make sure I truly flash stock kernel. After that I flash 2.27 via TWRP,and it works!
i can confirm,it works for Motorola Victara.
Thank you Chainfire
+王权 请问这个商店更新要多久呢
Will this change allow post 5.0 OTAs to pass modification checks so that OTAs could be sideloaded like in 4.x?
+Ted Fishman, no 5.0 uses a block level update so if your system partition isn't exactly as it shipped. Flashing otas will fail.
Works perfect here, stock kernel + non-rooted to stock kernel + rooted
+Aaron Gascoigne So you'll have to first reflash system partition as the easiest method?
+Ted Fishman on a stock device using verified block level updates. Yes reflashing the system partition assuming you had an unlocked bootloader would be the easiest way.
Bro without you OEM's would have won long ago!!! You are the GOD of root and my device sucks without you!
MO
Thanks +Chainfire
Nexus 5 succeeded without kernel patch. Awesome!
Works on nexus 5 5.0 with the stock boot.
+Chainfire flashed 2.27 and titanium backup stop working it keep saying I have insufficient storage space and I have over 3gigs free
I've put in my nexus 5 the stock 5.0 boot.img, then i've flashed the beta 2.27 of supersu by the new recovery twrp 2.8.2.0. so the system be working very smooth.
Chainfire you're irreplaceable, fast and relentless.
Sorry for my ignorance: I have updated from Nexus 4 Lollipop stock + root SuperSU 2.19 using NRT. After that, I have updated to SuperSU 2.23 Beta using de APK, (AutomateIt Pro root tasks still doesn't work), after then, update to 2.25 Beta in the same way (APK), and AutomateIt works fine now with root tasks as enable or dissable airplane mode. It is safe to update do 2.27 using the same method (APK)? I am not sure reading the heading of this post.... Thanks.
The boss chainfire!!!!!
+Chainfire no worries problem fixed
You're awesome !
Works fine here with stock boot.img many thanks
Is flashing back stock kernel, flashing boot.img through fastboot? I originally rooted using AutoRoot so I assume my kernel is patched. Will flashing boot.img give me stock kernel?
Nexus 5 ,LRX21O factory images /TWRP recovery + Franco kernel r68, superSU v2.27 seems to be working as it should, +Chainfire should I have re flashed the stock boot images to revert changed to the ramdisc or is this not needed as I'm running a custom kernel?
Flashed boot.img back, using 2.27 everything seems to be normal. Tried root permissions with Tasker/Secure Settings, ES File Explorer, no issues
SuperSU v2.27 BETA works fine in my N4 Rom 5.0 stock, Kernel HellsDoctor3_L10 and recovery-clockwork-6.0.4.7-mako.
Tnks +Chainfire !!!
Super su error
ANyone try this on the Nexus 6? I am about to.
Hi. I am having trouble downloading SuperSU beta! The download speed drops to "0" and stays like that for like an hour!!! Why is that?
N5, N7 2013 - worked fine after boot.img restore.
Works perfectly with the Nexus 6. Thank you!
So..I am on a stock/rooted N5 (4.4) best method would be?
-
update to 5.0 (ota)
-
unlock/wipe
-
install twrp
-
flash SuperSU 2.27
Yep worked on my Nexus 6 as well +Frank Gambino. +Chainfire you are the man bro!
No problems via CWM on Nexus 5.
What's the status on using encryption start-up pins?
Flashed on my G900A AT&T S5 no problems Chainfire??

Works fine for me stock rooted:

Franco kernel r-68
TWRP 2.8.2.0
Nexus 5, latest 5.0 factory image, bone-stock kernel.
I installed 2.26 yesterday, but I didn't realize that I needed to flash a new kernel. Just flashed this on top of 2.26 and it works perfectly. Tested with root checker and Amaze file manager and both recognize root access!
This. Is. Amazing!
+Chainfire You're the absolute man! Worked great on fully stock N5 with Lollipop, stock kernel.

Works perfect on fresh install of Lollipop (LRX21T) with TWRP (2.8.2.0) on a Nexus 4!

This is Randall Flagg some things I didn't mention I'm running KitKat and I used towelroot to get root access!
更新的够快
Thank you CF....... Once again you show why you are the man..... Android fans are indebted to you
I'll wait for stable, previously use 2.1.6 with custom boot.img
Tried v2.27 BETA to root my 2012 Nexus 7 (LRX21P) with TWRP recovery.Worked beautifully. Thank you!
How to flash back stock kernel?
I use nexus root toolkit to flash stock kernel, but not finished.

Nexus 5 LRX21O, stock kernel & franco kernel works great.
Bad zip?
This is really awesome.. Great work.. ? ?
Hi ChainFire,
I rooted my N4 with Lollipop using NRT.
So now I have a modified kernel and I'm running SuperSU Pro 2.19.
What is the best way to update?
I think it is:
-
update SuperSU to 2.27 using TWRP
-
flash stock kernel
Is it ok?
Quero apenas agradecer pelo seu trabalho árduo, sempre em ajudar a nós mortais.
Here
Nexus 7 2012
Android 5
was rooted by CF-Auto-Root
I restored the boot.img and rooted my device with this version.
no problem here and now I can disable startup apps in "all in one toolbox"
Workes fine on Nexus 9 with TWRP 2.8.2.1 & lrx21r
Just wanted to give my feedback - I installed it via TWRP on my Nexus 5, running Lollipop and stock kernel. Work great so far and I haven't encountered any issues.
Confirming, Nexus 5 stock boot.img flashed with SuperSU 2.27 and everything rolls beautifully! Great Thanks +Chainfire
worked great on jflteatt (S4) and a CM12 beta build
Worked great from note 3 sm-n9005 tnx
Confirmed N4 Lollipop

Worked like a charm!
Thanks ChainFire!!!
+Davide Accogli where did you get the stock lollipop kernel for N4
Well, this version of SuperSU works on Android L, right?
works for me on n4 and self-build recent cm12
thank you
+Chainfire Just confirming root working on the SHIELD Tablet running Lollipop as well.
Installed and working on an original Nexus 7 (grouper) running lollipop using TWRP 2.8.2.0.
Flashed on an encrypted lollipop nexus 4 using twrp 2.8.2.0... Works perfectly. Thanks!
+Chainfire v2.27 working fine on N6 except my LG G Watch, Android Wear says connected, running sync loop. Doesn't seem to affect anything though. I'm pretty sure this occurred after this flash because when I first setup it was not there.
Working fine here Moto X 2014 2.2.7
It works when encrypted ?
+Paul Trehiou it worked with my encrypted nexus 4.
That's cool !
Keep it up mate :) you are awesome
Using 2.27 beta on LG G2 running CM 12 alpha testing Lollipop 5.0. Works great
nexus 4 is a go! flashed your beta with openrecovery-twrp-2.8.2.0-mako.img Thanks @Chainfire__------__-- Lovin the lollipop with S0uperSU the BossMan
Thanks !Root 。
Note 4 (sm n910k - 4.4.4 KitKat, ART runtime). Just installed this version and it fixed a number of problems with various apps with ART. TB now works and I can freeze and uninstall apps. I can also change screen resolution now which also wasn't working with the old version. Nice work CF! I was going to change back to Dalvik but now I will stick with ART.
N5 Lollipop full factory load + CF autoRoot.
Loaded this over the top via TWRP. No issues so far.
Tried flashing this with TWRP 2.8.1.0 and it gives an error about unable to open the zip. Tried downloading again same error. I'm on an HTC One m7 with CM12.
Anyone know how to get this working?
Edit: Looks like the download link in the XDA thread is corrupted. I had to download from the link in the op.
+Ray Darbin did you try to reflash the noforceencrypt_boot.img after CFAR, then factory reset in bootloader (fastboot format userdata)? My path was oem unlock, back to bootloader, flash noforceencrypt, reboot bootloader, format userdata, boot to OS, back to bootloader, flash twrp, flash CFAR. Win! (iirc)
Good luck!
No, 2.23. But you have to factory reset after flashing the noforceencrypt img, prior to booting the device into android
+Ray Darbin the thought was, if this version doesn't modify the kernel you can gain root, then unencrypt with the other script after installing
Yes, just don't use "erase userdata". Use format userdata as it cleans the partition, not delete it ;p
+Ray Darbin did it work?
Bedtime. I'll check tomorrow. The Boss here may have a better way ;p
Check with +Chainfire, there has to be a way to do both. 2.23 working perfectly here on N6 with encryption off, stock n rooted with twrp. Nite!
Help please guys. I am running super SU 2.01 AND KITKAT 4.4.4 all works fine should I be updating my super SU now and to what version and how? Done this so long ago I can't remember what to do? Also what recovery is best to use now. Thanks
Appreciate your work.
+Djcarwyn Harris I suggest you to flash the stable SuperSU v2.16, no need to flash a beta. You can flash it with the latest twrp recovery by going to Install->select "SuperSU.zip"->swipe to flash->reboot system
Thanks for keeping up the work Chainfire! I'm really amazed seeing the effort.
anyway: Nexus 7 (2012) wifi (grouper)
Rom: Official Android 5.0 Lollipop lrx21p installed + TWRP 2.8.1.0

___________
ES File Explorer: Root explorer complains for root but opens /sys
Xmodgames: complains and doesnt work
Cydia Substrate: Complains and doesnt work

Does this new method affects KNOX 0x0? Or will knox end at 0x1 as most other methods?
I installed stock lollipop on nexus 7 2012, then installed twrp 2.8.1.0 and then flashed v2.27. But I have issues! Is it just me!? Are all of your favourite apps (like es root explorer, xmodgame) ok with this version? Because some i tested didnt like it.

Anyone else is having trouble with mobil signals? I Roor CM12 and I have no signal
+Lennard Gäher +Chainfire How did you get this to work on a N10 with stock boot.img? I've clean flashed my N10 twice now, flashed the newest TWRP, and then loaded the zip.
Each time, when the tablet boots, it tells me SuperSu has crashed and I only have the Android icon in my launcher called eu.chainfire.supersu.Mainaction. Am I missing something here?
+Matthew Fura there's something wrong with TWRP 2.8.2.0. Use 2.8.1.0 instead. Next ZIP update will work around this issue.
+Chainfire I thought that might be the issue. Flashed the older 2.8.1 and tried flashing again, didn't work. Looks like I'll need to reload the factory image once more and use the older version. I'll let you know if that works.
Thanks +Chainfire. That worked.
Nexus 5, LRX21O stock, kernel not patched. It works like a charm!!!!
