LiveBoot is a boot animation that shows you logcat and dmesg outputs on-screen as they happen. Output configuration includes logcat categories, whether to show dmesg, and the amount of lines that should fit on your screen. For Pro users there's also the option to make the output transparent and overlay the default boot animation.

Root is required (SuperSU v2.40 or newer), and even though various firmwares from 4.3 up to 5.0 may work, it's aimed primarily at 5.0 devices, with 4.4 users most likely to run into issues. Those specific issues will be looked at in due time.

Of course you still remember this app's predecessor from years ago, but that version can't really be ported to new devices, so now there is this!

There's a lot more to tell about this, please see the XDA thread for further details!

Awesome, I'll be trying it out soon (nexus 5)

Shiv Manas commented on 2014-12-17 at 21:49:

I was wondering if you'd ever make a sequel for the original app. Thank you, +Chainfire

Now all we need is a remake of Chainfire3D.. ;)

Markus Birth commented on 2014-12-17 at 21:49:

The revival of "live logcat" / "live dmesg"? Great!

Smity Smith commented on 2014-12-17 at 21:50:

Hope you get the kitkat issues ironed out mate ?

Luca A. commented on 2014-12-17 at 21:54:

Installed... Looks very nice

Anders Tyft commented on 2014-12-17 at 21:55:

Freeload option made me buy it :-)

Well played +Chainfire

Val Ozuna commented on 2014-12-17 at 21:57:

Awesome!

Tyson Kemp commented on 2014-12-17 at 22:02:

Perfect I can find it why this ADT-1 lollipop build isn't booting on my Nexus Q.

Rob Czepil commented on 2014-12-17 at 22:02:

Unfortunately did not work on S4 google editon 5.0 with SU 2.40

Ryan Cavitt commented on 2014-12-17 at 22:03:

Does "SU during boot" need to be enabled?

Dan Rhodes commented on 2014-12-17 at 22:04:

Kinda cool looking, but too small to read, so it's really just nerd bait.

Jeff Jansen commented on 2014-12-17 at 22:10:

Purchased as a user of the early version. Love the "freeload" option lol. Aspiring devs: that's how its done old school style. People don't want smoke & mirrors trickery. Nothing but respect CF.

David Batty commented on 2014-12-17 at 22:10:

Out standing. Been using the logcat version for a long time.

Jason Efstathiou commented on 2014-12-17 at 22:12:

Oh my that's amazing.

Markus Birth commented on 2014-12-17 at 22:17:

+Ryan Cavitt: Works for me without that being enabled.

Mike Trieu commented on 2014-12-17 at 22:19:

Given my last experience with root apps and Android 5.0, won't writing to /system effectively break future OTAs?

Chainfire commented on 2014-12-17 at 22:22:

+Rob Czepil logs on XDA will help to solve

+Ryan Cavitt no it does not

+Dan Rhodes the size is adjustable... but the speed is usually still going to be too fast to read ;)

+Mike Trieu yes, but rooting itself already breaks OTA, so if you're already rooted adding an app won't change things. Not rooting because of a two minute reflash of /system before a thrice a year OTA? That only makes sense if you don't care about root at all.

Ryan Cavitt commented on 2014-12-17 at 22:23:

+Mike Trieu for Nexus devices it won't matter just use fastboot.

If you're rooted you generally have an unlocked bootloader on a Nexus device.

On other devices and/or Custom ROM I don't know for sure how that's gonna work out.

Also if you have installed superSU you have already modified /system

Dan Rhodes commented on 2014-12-17 at 22:29:

Settings says "Enabe  Pro features"

Mike Trieu commented on 2014-12-17 at 22:36:

+Ryan Cavitt That's the thing, though. Chainfire's right about anything touching the system partition, including the su binary itself, changing the inode structure of the partition and thereby invalidating the hash check in the OTA script. I suppose you could just modify the script to bypass the hash check, but I'm not knowledgeable enough to know the repercussions of doing that and I've heard reports that doing so causes some weird instabilities. I'd rather not have to reinstall all my apps and data whenever there's a major OS revision, but root is indispensible for a wide range of commonly used tasks, so I suppose we all have to bite the bullet going forward.

OZkAr F3rNand3z commented on 2014-12-17 at 22:36:

This think is amazing thank chainfire u r the best

Jason Efstathiou commented on 2014-12-17 at 22:47:

+Dan Rhodes I think it's the point. The logs are going absolutely nuts during boot anyway unless you filter.

Rafael Freitas commented on 2014-12-17 at 23:04:

So geeky, love it!

Chainfire commented on 2014-12-17 at 23:37:

Just uploaded v1.05, which should increase compatibility, to the Play Store. The update should be available to you in an hour or two. Let me know (of course also if it breaks devices that worked on v1.00).

David Daynard commented on 2014-12-17 at 23:40:

Why would I need increased compatibility with the play store?

Gus Lipkin commented on 2014-12-17 at 23:44:

I love the Freeload option and hate myself for using it. Once those Google Opinion Rewards rack up I know where it'll be going.

Chainfire commented on 2014-12-17 at 23:44:

... and the very first comment on the Play Store is a two-star whine about it currently needing SuperSU. Shame on me for using new functionalities when available. Unbelievable.

Gus Lipkin commented on 2014-12-17 at 23:48:

+Chainfire Shame on people for not being reasonable human beings. If you want a laugh, click here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.gms&hl=en then look at the second page of "most helpful" reviews.

"Last but not least, if you simply don't want to pay for it, there's also a button to enable Pro mode."  -  I like the attitude! I always love your work.

Michael Lynch commented on 2014-12-18 at 02:25:

I installed and rebooted just to watch it. Nice job!

Timothy Ledin commented on 2014-12-18 at 02:37:

So cool, I had your earlier version back in the day and was bummed when I couldn't use it anymore. I purchased premium as I do always with your apps. Thank you so much for all your work and commitment to the cause, without it root access would probably be nonexistent. Lastly, I wouldn't feel right enabling pro mode the cheap way.

Sándor Csendes commented on 2014-12-18 at 04:20:

Awesome!! Thank you CF!

It could be useful if we could pause during boot: who can read that fast?

not compatible with my one x.. too bad..

Hanspeter Holzer commented on 2014-12-18 at 09:30:

Working on the Samsung GT-N7100 (Note2 international), but displays only about 1/3 of amount of messages that you see in the youtube video. I guess it's the method Samsung uses to switch from it's pulsating logo to the real boot animation an back.

+Koushik Dutta Love you man literally!!

Richard Myers commented on 2014-12-18 at 10:30:

+Chainfire great app... But I found a typo... The freeload section enable is enabe... Figured I'd inform you. Thanks again.

Greg Willard commented on 2014-12-18 at 10:35:

Works great! FWIW, it works great on Lollipop and almost great on KitKat. It seems to crash after a certain amount of time.

Stefan Mai commented on 2014-12-18 at 11:49:

I really like this one, as the stock LP bootanim has started to become slightly annoying to me by now. (had to reboot my 2012 N7 way too often when fixing the manually flashed LP factory image)

However, I'd love for LiveBoot to have (the option for) a stark black background for the log lines rather than the mid-dark grey one it has right now. Maybe a feature for a future update?

Kai Emmerich commented on 2014-12-18 at 13:08:

Very nice cant stop rebooting my phone?

Could you help with the super su wow !!! THANKS;-)

Jeff Bower commented on 2014-12-19 at 18:42:

I'm really starting to get tired of this. I only download your app because I remember the last app I downloaded was pretty awesome so I wanted to send you some more money. So I download the app, pay for it, and then you go and make the app I just downloaded pretty awesome and since it's worth the money I need to download your next app as well...
