Just pushed to the Play Store, wait a few hours for it to propagate or grab the APK from XDA here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3050998

Some minor fixes, a form of multi-user support (config as admin, works the same for all) and some CM specific fixes. Barring the discovery of any major issues, this should be the last update to Recently for some time.

CM

Let it not be said (again...) that I never give any love to CM users. There was a bug in the service code which left the background process alive if using CM's su and you turned Recently off.

But the real reason I even looked at CM were the many requests to do something about the # symbol in the status bar when using Recently. Apparently it's a bit of an annoyance that the user can't turn off, and as the root process exists the entire time the app is activated, this means you'd always see the # symbol, and it loses all the usefulness you may think it has.

The work-around used is not very complex (though it did require more code changes than I generally expect doing on a Sunday), and it is only one of several ways it could be done. It does make you wonder though... What's worse than a security related indicator the user can't turn off? A security related indicator the user can't turn off that also doesn't reliably indicate the conditions you expect it to indicate.

Changelog

  • Workaround CM's # in statusbar

  • Fix never quitting with CM's SU

  • Multi-user support - works for all users, but with admin's config

  • Fix settings screen margins on tablets

Other apps

As an aside, several of my recent root apps (and upcoming ones too) will keep a root shell open in the background during the app's lifetime, as it is both faster and generally more efficient than repeatedly creating a root shell, running one or two commands, closing the root shell, and doing it all over again seconds (or even minutes) later.

Ironically, these are the virtually the same reasons some argue against the use of Recently itself, though I maintain those arguments do not hold when none of the Advanced Recently settings are used, in any but the very worst case scenarios.

Anyway - those apps will show you the # as well - I do not foresee implementing this same work-around for most of them.

Trying to upgrade to pro. I have two Google accounts on my phone (N6) and it won't let me choose the one I want to use, which is the main account on the phone.

Michael L. commented on 2015-03-15 at 22:19:

Still would really like to see some background under "clear all" button. Also animations of clearing tasks could be better, though im not sure if you can change it. Ah and it seems that if you are in recents panel, and you use for example fb messenger pop up head, clear all recents always is displayed above it (and therefore also above any other thing you do while in recent menu). When keyboard pops up - clear all is alse above it :P

mat helvie commented on 2015-03-15 at 22:33:

+Chainfire might it be possible to have option to move clear button to the left side? Thanks for another great app.

Ishaan Rajiv commented on 2015-03-15 at 22:50:

+Chainfire Thanks for your work. Is it possible to add an option for Recently to access root as a service as it did previously, too? As that option was more elegant for those on Stock ROMs and don't wish to see the root permission granted popups. Cheers.

You spent way to much time on that CM issue :) I would have laughed and walked away and enjoyed my Sunday. Great work sir.

Thanks for updating your app. Just paid my upgrade fee.

Disable cm root and flash supersu from the recovery... (cm12)

James Bryant commented on 2015-03-15 at 23:34:

+Tyler Allen to get around this I install from the Web browser interface on a computer! I used to get do frustrated before realising how simple it is to manage from the PC.

Kenneth Qvarfordt commented on 2015-03-15 at 23:47:

I've never used recent before. Sounded cool so I installed it. Something I don't like it's that it keeps triggering superSU to report it gave it root permission every 1-3 minutes or so. Call me paranoid but that doesn't feel right in my book.

Dhananjay Bhosale commented on 2015-03-16 at 02:21:

I turned off notifications for supersu to get rid of # isn't that easy :P

Rowan D commented on 2015-03-16 at 02:59:

I know you don't plan on doing the # workaround for most of your apps but I feel it would be a good addition to Cf.Lumen as it is always around no matter what I am using my phone for. Like you said the indicator looses its purpose if you can't actually use it to detect if an app uses su.

Misfit Pierce commented on 2015-03-16 at 03:06:

The notification from su goes off like every 3 minutes now. Annoying and I guess I gotta disable notification manually. Didn't do it before update.

Mitch Lambert commented on 2015-03-16 at 07:53:

It's a shame this app needs root privileges. I'd love to install it on my kids N7's because every time I pick them up it's running dreadfully sluggish as there's about 100 games open in the background. I can't root the kids tablets, though, it doesn't seem a sensible thing to do.

+Ishaan Rajiv +Kenneth Qvarfordt +Pierce Swan Sorry about that popup, that's a bug. Will be fixed lated today in v1.16.

+Dhananjay Bhosale You're actually talking about a different issue :)

Frieder Bluemle commented on 2015-03-16 at 09:35:

Looks interesting! Is there a way to add an indicator to the stock task switcher that shows whether or not the app is currently running?

Stefan Mai commented on 2015-03-16 at 11:24:

So much effort to work around Koush's ~~shitty~~ suboptimal SU...

Still, awesome job as always. I've enjoyed the much improved recents menu so far.

Mister Anthrope commented on 2015-03-17 at 07:24:

damn bro thats cold. I think it was kinda aimed at being minimal, not shitty lol but hey I do disable it and use Chainfire's so I know what you're saying

Abo Madany commented on 2015-03-26 at 09:26:

There is a series bug with me ...the recent tabs are stuck on showing only 20 tabs opened .... i change recently to show 33 tabs and it should show more thant 33 cause there is apps that already working .... but when i go to my recent apps all that shown is only 20 tabs opened ... i try to open like 5 new apps then go to recent apps it shows these 5 apps tabs and 15 other apps so it stuck on 20 tabs shown and it replaced old 5 tabs .....

I uninstalled and clear system cash ... tabs stuck on 20 tabs ...

I install recently again and change time and number of tabs ...it also has no effect only 20 tabs shown ...

+Chainfire, when I have the "hide settings" option enabled I can not view "App Info" when dragged and dropped from the app drawer (it just closes after opening). I'm on stock 5.1, Nexus5, with Franco's latest kernel. Expected? Or bug?
