(Good news everyone!)

Obvious clickbait is obvious, unlocked bootloaders are unlocked, and as invariably someone has to point out in a snarky comment on /r/android, open doors are indeed open, even before you kick them.

Either way, the first CF-Auto-Root's for the S6 family are up: SM-G920T and SM-G925T - the T-Mobile US S6 and S6 Edge.

Only very minor modifications were necessary [to the existing CFAR script]. The S6 CFAR has been tested on a real device, and root was achieved. Further information? I have none, I wasn't there in person.

All completely expected, but perhaps nice to know regardless.

Before actually rooting though, consider that KNOX will likely be tripped, and there's a good chance untripped KNOX will be required for phone based payments.

Let the "yeah I don't really need root anymore" commenting commence!

EDIT: The G920F S6 'international' has also been added now

This phone lost my sale. Non-removable battery? I have a zero lemon and i charge after 3 days of heavy use. No micro SD? My G5s is a 16gb with 64gb micro SD. Why would I pay for a $600 phone that I can't give upgrades. What new phones still have removable batteries and micro SD?

CJ Lackner Jr commented on 2015-03-16 at 21:48:

+Otsuko, watch out for the LG G4... It should have a microSD slot and possibly a removable battery as well.

CJ Lackner Jr commented on 2015-03-16 at 22:11:

+Otsuko, right now, no pickings.  The LG G4 isn't out yet.  If you are looking for something right now that's already out, take a look at the LG G3.  It's what I've considered going to.  I have an HTC One M8, but the LG G3 has a much better camera, laser auto focus which is great for my slow self and optical image stabilization which helps for people with shaky hands, like me as well, lol.  The G3 has a 5.5" screen in what feels like a 5" phone size, very impressive design and a removable battery and microSD card slot also.  The G3 has a good following on XDA, so I'll assume the G4 will too.

Troy Studnicka commented on 2015-03-16 at 22:17:

Hell to the yeah!!!! I know what I'm doing with my S6 Edge when I get it ;). Please have it available for the Verizon version thanks :)

Chainfire commented on 2015-03-16 at 22:22:

+Malik Velez +Troy Studnicka AT&T and Verizon Samsungs usually have locked bootloaders, which means they cannot be rooted with this method. You'll need an exploit-based root. I do not deal with those, and I'm not really sure these will appear at all! If you really want root, I always advice finding a carrier/phone with an unlocked (or unlockable) bootloader.

Troy Studnicka commented on 2015-03-16 at 22:25:

I thought I read with the newest lollipop that unlocking is possible, plus with the new unlocked phone policy, if you call and ask VZW to unlock your phone, they are suppose to do so per request. I don't recall what law that was in regards to, but I saw it somewhere a few weeks ago.

Chainfire commented on 2015-03-16 at 22:39:

+Troy Studnicka well you'd better triple check before you spend. The unlocking you're talking about is probably SIM unlocking, not bootloader unlocking, which will allow you to use your phone with a different carrier, not root it.

NATF XDA commented on 2015-03-16 at 22:42:

+Troy Studnicka You are thinking of SIM unlocking for use on other carriers. Verizon doesn't lock the SIM, but both companies lock the bootloader.

Troy Studnicka commented on 2015-03-16 at 22:45:

oh ok thanks

Joe Caputo commented on 2015-03-17 at 06:40:

Can anyone confirm that rooting/tripping Knox disables Samsung Pay?!

Deian Stancu commented on 2015-03-17 at 07:18:

Will certainly disable Pay. Imagine the there are many mobile banking apps that verify root and there is a fix for many of them, not all can be tricked to think there is no root. So yes, it is a risk.

Deian Stancu commented on 2015-03-17 at 07:22:

But root is a must for us many :) Adfree and Titanium backup (with freeze and debloat), two things we can make use of our devices at greater potential. Without Chainfire, there is no reason to use a phone :D

Matt Booth commented on 2015-03-17 at 08:06:

Have a look for Chainfires CF-AUTOROOT I'm sure it does S2.

Install Kies

Boot phone in to download mode (power, volume down, and home button all at same time) press volume up to continue.

In Odin, select the Autoroot file in PDA, press start.

Once rooted, the world is your oyster - even if you only download adfree it's worth it

[EDIT: i was being dumb somehow. root access confirmed on LRX22G.G920FXXU1AOBN using cf-auto-root. thanks chanfire!]

Chainfire commented on 2015-03-24 at 20:52:

+Charlie da Silva where did you get the unit? do you have the firmware? It seems you're actually running a slightly older firmware than the CFAR is based on.

Especially on the early days of a new device it is not uncommon for firmwares and bootloaders (as they're still under heavy development) to be incompatible in such a way that a CFAR made for one firmware may not boot on another.

That all being said, I doubt that the issue is your bootloader being locked, the F models are generally not locked (of course, it could be a first)

Pleased to also confirm that while it hung at 'Nand Write Start' on my S6 with Odin 3.09, version 3.10 worked perfectly.

Qasim Mehmud commented on 2015-05-16 at 15:50:

root is a success with odin 3.10.6, but after that i get stuck on the boot logo screen, any idea what i may be doing wrong?

Giovan Battista Zane commented on 2015-05-16 at 15:52:

+Qasim Mehmud yes, download firmware flash with odin and reflash su

Giovan Battista Zane commented on 2015-05-16 at 16:00:

yes you must return to download mode same way you have done root but you put in odin the firmware (you must know if you have the 920f or 920i variant).

you found the fw on Google or on sammobile grouped for geographical area

Giovan Battista Zane commented on 2015-05-16 at 16:00:

the good thing with Sammy is that you will always come back from a bootloop

Qasim Mehmud commented on 2015-05-16 at 16:09:

its a 920f, thanks for  the help mate. i'll get right into it...cheers!

Giovan Battista Zane commented on 2015-05-16 at 16:11:

I had that same problem with my Italian Vodafone s6 I flashed the UK Vodafone fw and it works, you are from another geo location so I can't be sure but anyway flashing the fw will save you from bootloop

Santiago Fernandez Devoto commented on 2015-10-22 at 16:41:

+martyn taylor You can flash an official ROM without problem. But if you put a 5.1.1 ROM you'll have to use Unikernel, because CF-AutoRoot for 5.1.1 is not supported yet by Chainfire

Hi Chainfire and greetins to all

I just need some advice and maybe some guidance. My S6 Edge with details as below:

G925F

Android 5.1.1

G925FXXU3QPA7

G925FXFV3QOIW

G925FXXU3QPA3

Is rooted with CF Auto Root. Then I flashed TWRP 3.0 using ODIN

Now my question is how do I Install custom Roms and WHERE can I get A simple/basic custom rom just to test it and figure out how I want it?

Your repsonses will be highly appreciated.
